The Details
The Akai Professional MPC Sample brings the classic MPC idea into a neat, highly approachable standalone sampler and beat-making workstation. It is designed around the familiar 4 x 4 pad layout, giving you 16 substantial pads for playing drums, triggering samples and building sequences without disappearing into a computer screen.
Dedicated controls keep the creative business close to the surface. Samples can be recorded, chopped, looped, reversed and resampled, while Step Edit, Note Repeat, effects and the three assignable knobs provide plenty of scope for turning raw sounds into something considerably more mischievous. The onboard fader adds another useful tactile control for performance and editing.
Connectivity includes stereo audio inputs and outputs, MIDI in and out, headphones and USB, while the built-in speaker is splendid for sketching ideas when inspiration ambushes you away from the studio.
This example is presented in the distinctive light finish and includes its original MPC Sample box as pictured. A handsome little rhythm laboratory for producers, finger drummers and anyone who believes the best beats often begin with pressing the wrong pad at exactly the right moment.
