Notable Particulars
- Dual 3340 analogue oscillators deliver rich classic waveforms with extensive tuning and shaping options
- Paraphonic architecture allows both oscillators to be played independently for more adventurous performance possibilities
- Semi-modular signal path works immediately without patching, while the extensive patch bay opens the door to serious experimentation
- Multimode analogue filter, overdrive and analogue delay provide everything from smooth sweeps to gloriously unruly textures
- Eurorack-compatible design makes the Neutron an excellent standalone synth or powerful addition to a modular system
The Details
The Behringer Neutron is one of those synthesizers that positively invites exploration. This example comes in its distinctive red desktop enclosure and is supplied in its original box with the Quick Start Guide, patch cables and accessories pictured.
At its heart are two analogue oscillators based around 3340 VCO circuitry, accompanied by a multimode filter, dual envelopes, LFO, noise generator, sample and hold, slew rate limiter, overdrive and delay. The normalled semi-modular architecture means you can start making sounds without connecting a single patch cable, then venture into the generous patch bay when the urge to experiment inevitably strikes.
There is considerable scope for everything from weighty analogue bass and leads to drones, percussion, evolving sequences and wonderfully peculiar electronic noises. MIDI and USB connectivity also make it straightforward to incorporate into a modern studio or hardware setup.
The Neutron is particularly rewarding for anyone wanting to learn synthesis and patching without immediately disappearing into the financial wormhole of a full modular system. Of course, it may eventually lead you there anyway. I cannot be held responsible for the sudden appearance of Eurorack cases around the house.
