- Maple and mahogany body construction > a maple top over mahogany provides the familiar combination of muscular lows, singing sustain and articulate attack.
- Twin Burny FVH-2002 humbuckers > a pair of Burny humbuckers delivers powerful rock tones with plenty of weight for riffs and lead work.
- Chrome hardware and mirrored scratchplate > the black finish, chrome appointments and striking mirror scratchplate recreate the visual character that makes the JS model instantly recognisable.
- Classic Custom appointments > multi-ply binding, large block fingerboard inlays and ornate headstock detailing give this instrument suitably grand Custom-style looks.
The Details
The Burny RLC-55JS takes the classic single-cut Custom formula and gives it a decidedly harder-edged personality, inspired by the celebrated black Custom played by John Sykes.
Beneath that glossy black exterior is a maple-topped mahogany body paired with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. The 22-fret neck uses the familiar 628mm / 24.75-inch scale length.
Electronics comprise two Burny FVH-2002 humbuckers with the traditional four-knob control arrangement and three-way pickup selector. Chrome pickup surrounds, bridge, stopbar and machine heads are joined by the model's signature mirrored scratchplate, creating a wonderfully severe black-and-silver appearance.
It is a cracking proposition for anyone chasing muscular classic-rock and hard-rock tones without surrendering the elegance of a bound Custom. The mirrored plate is particularly splendid. I have always maintained that if a guitar can double as an emergency shaving mirror backstage, so much the better.
