The Details
The DeArmond Pilot DLX VI is a rather splendid six-string bass from the era when DeArmond instruments offered adventurous specifications at remarkably approachable prices. This Korean-crafted example combines extended range, active electronics and handsome natural woods in a distinctly purposeful design.
Its six strings open considerably more territory than a conventional four-string, whether you are exploring subterranean lows, chordal passages or melodic excursions higher up the fingerboard. Two large soapbar pickups are partnered by a five-control layout, with a rear 9V battery compartment.
The natural-finished body has sweeping double cutaways and excellent upper-fret access, while the dark fingerboard carries simple dot position markers. Particularly attractive is the multi-piece construction visible along the rear of the instrument and neck, giving the bass a wonderfully crafted appearance.
A fascinating DeArmond for players who enjoy having rather more sonic acreage beneath their fingertips. With six strings, active circuitry and acres of natural timber, this is a bass built for exploration.
