The Details
The Fender Classic Player Baja Telecaster became something of a modern classic, and with good reason. Designed with input from Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Chris Fleming, it takes the traditional Telecaster recipe and quietly slips a few extra tonal contraptions under the control plate.
This example is finished in wonderfully evocative 2-Color Sunburst with a black pickguard and maple fingerboard. It has an MX15 serial number and Made in Mexico manufacture, presenting as a nicely played instrument with the sort of light marks and signs of use one expects from a guitar that has actually ventured beyond its case.
At its heart are the Baja's Custom Shop-designed Tele pickups, paired with a 4-way selector and S-1 switch. You get the essential bridge-pickup cut and neck-pickup warmth, plus series and additional switching options that take the guitar into thicker, punchier territory without sacrificing its Telecaster identity.
A cracking choice for anyone wanting vintage-flavoured Tele looks and feel with considerably more tonal range than the traditional three-way arrangement. The Baja has earned a loyal following since leaving Fender's catalogue, and this sunburst example has all the ingredients that made the model so appealing.
