The Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus is one of the more adventurous Telecasters to have escaped Fender's workshop. It retains the unmistakable Tele silhouette but equips it with a pine body and an HSS pickup arrangement capable of covering considerably more sonic territory than the traditional two-pickup recipe.
The Modern Player single-coil Tele neck pickup supplies familiar clarity and snap, while a Modern Player Strat single-coil occupies the middle position for glassier textures and useful combined sounds. At the bridge sits a Modern Player humbucker for thicker, more powerful tones. The five-way blade selector provides the principal pickup combinations, while the mini-toggle splits the bridge humbucker for yet another flavour. Rather a lot of tonal contraband for one Telecaster.
The one-piece maple neck has a C profile, 9.5" fingerboard radius, 22 jumbo frets, black dot markers and a synthetic bone nut. Fender's 25.5" scale length keeps the response crisp and familiar, while vintage-style tuning machines and a six-saddle strings-through-body hardtail bridge complete the hardware.
This example comes in Charcoal Transparent, a handsome gloss polyester finish that allows the pine grain to remain visible beneath the smoky exterior. A three-ply black pickguard and nickel/chrome hardware complete the decidedly purposeful appearance.
