The Details
The Fender Rumble 30 Version 1 is a compact 30-watt bass combo that manages the rather useful trick of being easy to carry without sounding timid. Its Fender Special Design 10-inch speaker delivers a full, punchy bass tone, while the cabinet's bass reflex ports help give the low end a little more authority.
The control panel is pleasingly straightforward, with Volume plus three-band Bass, Mid and Treble EQ. There's also a built-in overdrive section with Gain and Blend controls, allowing anything from a subtle roughening of the edges to a much grittier bass sound while retaining some clean definition underneath.
For practice, the Rumble 30 is particularly well equipped. The RCA auxiliary input allows an external music source or drum machine to be connected, while the 6.35mm headphone output is ideal for quieter sessions. Two instrument inputs are provided, and the tilt-back cabinet design can angle the speaker towards the player for easier monitoring.
This example presents as a tidy, practical bass combo with the wonderfully workmanlike appearance these early Rumbles wear so well. A fine choice for home practice, rehearsals and situations where hauling a great black wardrobe of bass amplification simply isn't called for.
