  • Iconic Goldtop finish gives this Les Paul the unmistakable look associated with some of Gibson’s most celebrated instruments
  • Dual mini-humbucker pickups deliver the Deluxe signature sound, with more clarity and definition than a full-size humbucker while retaining plenty of Gibson warmth and punch

  • A genuine vintage instrument with over five decades of history, character and natural ageing

The Details

Introduced at the end of the 1960s, the Les Paul Deluxe became one of Gibson’s defining guitars of the 1970s. Its calling card was the pair of mini-humbuckers, neatly mounted into P-90-sized surrounds and offering a distinctive alternative to the larger humbuckers found on the Les Paul Standard.

This 1973 example wears the wonderfully evocative Goldtop finish. Underneath lies the familiar Les Paul recipe of a mahogany-based body with maple top, set neck construction and rosewood fingerboard, producing the weight, resonance and sustain expected from a vintage Les Paul.

The mini-humbuckers are where the Deluxe earns its particular personality. They retain the thickness and low-noise performance of a humbucker but add extra focus, bite and articulation. Clean sounds have definition and sparkle, while an overdriven amplifier brings out a wonderfully vocal midrange with enough edge to cut through a band mix.

Being a vintage guitar, its age-related wear forms part of its individual character and history. Please study the photographs carefully for the cosmetic condition of this particular instrument.

A 1973 Goldtop Deluxe is more than an attractive old Les Paul. It represents a fascinating chapter in Gibson history and offers a sound all its own. Plug it into a willing valve amplifier, turn the wick up and those little mini-humbuckers explain the rest rather eloquently.
