The Details
This Gordon Smith Gypsy GS2 dates from 2005 and is a splendid example of the straightforward, player-focused guitars that helped establish Gordon Smith as a particularly characterful name in British guitar building.
Finished in translucent Cherry, its double-cut body combines sweeping curves with sharply defined horns, while the visible grain beneath the finish gives the guitar an appealingly organic appearance. Two chrome-covered humbuckers are paired with a three-way toggle switch and four-control layout, providing a familiar and versatile arrangement for everything from warm neck-pickup sounds to biting bridge tones.
The rosewood-style fingerboard carries simple dot markers, while the black scratchplate and chrome hardware complement the deep red finish nicely. The number 10405 is visible on the rear of the headstock.
This is very much a played guitar rather than a museum piece. There are numerous small knocks, scratches, marks and areas of finish wear across the body and headstock, all clearly visible in the photographs. Rather splendidly, they give it the air of an instrument that has already collected a few stories rather than spent its life waiting politely in a cupboard.
A handsome piece of British guitar-making with an unfussy specification, distinctive silhouette and plenty of road-worn charm.
