The Details
The PRS SE Custom 24 takes the essential ingredients of the celebrated Custom 24 design and packages them into an accessible, stage-ready instrument. This example dates from 2016 and was built in Korea under licence for PRS, as marked on the rear of the headstock.
Its Charcoal finish allows the figuring of the maple top to show through beautifully, shifting from smoky grey to near-black depending on the light. The sculpted double-cutaway body is paired with a 24-fret neck and the wonderfully recognisable PRS bird fingerboard inlays.
A pair of covered humbuckers supplies the electrical muscle, controlled by master volume and tone controls with a three-way pickup selector. The PRS-designed tremolo provides plenty of scope for expressive vibrato, while the double-cutaway design makes excursions into the upper register comfortably straightforward.
A versatile instrument equally suited to clean, driven and high-gain territory, with the elegant lines and practical design that have made the Custom 24 such an enduring modern classic. A rather handsome piece of charcoal indeed, and considerably louder than the sort found beside a barbecue.
