The Details
Here is a splendid slice of Korean Super Strat history, the Samick YR-660 Artist Series. Built during an era when pointy headstocks, locking trems and heroic quantities of gain were perfectly reasonable items of everyday equipment, this is a feature-packed guitar with plenty of character.
The transparent red finish allows the body grain to show through beautifully and is complemented by gold-coloured hardware and an unusual set of geometric fingerboard inlays. The pickup complement is classic HSS, with two Samick single coils and a Samick bridge humbucker, selected via a blade switch and accompanied by two rotary controls plus an additional mini-toggle.
A locking tremolo marked “Licensed Under Floyd Rose Patents” partners with the locking nut for suitably adventurous whammy work. Up top, the black Samick Artist Series headstock and gold-coloured tuners complete the wonderfully period-correct appearance.
The neck plate carries serial number 6110126 and confirms Made in Korea manufacture. This is a used instrument that shows assorted marks, scratches and hardware tarnishing from previous use, particularly around the body and gold-coloured components. Please study the photographs for the precise cosmetic condition.
An intriguing survivor from the golden age of the Super Strat, with considerably more personality than another anonymous shredder.
